Multi-Channel DVD-Audio Playback: DVD-Audio is a new multi-channel format used for high resolution audio recording. This unit can decode and play DVD-Audio discs with a sampling rate up to 192kHz with a 24-bit word length.Bass Management: When three or more speakers are being used, you can change the parameters for speaker presence and size, the delay time, and channel balance to suit the speakers you are using:
- Speaker Presence and Size Settings: You can tell the unit how many speakers are in your system and which speakers have the ability to reproduce low bass signals. The center and surround channels may be set to "Large," "Small," or "No" (if there is no speaker on that channel). When the "Small" speaker size setting is selected for a particular channel, frequencies below 100Hz are filtered from that channel and sent to the subwoofer output. The size setting for the front speakers is automatically determined by the subwoofer setting; if the unit is told a subwoofer is in the system, the size setting for the front channels will be "Small", but, if there is no subwoofer in the system, the setting for the front channels will be "Large".
- Delay Time: In the Dolby Digital mode, a delay time can be entered for the center channel speaker and/or surround speakers. A delay in the center or surround channels would be necessary if the distance from the seating position to these speakers is greater than the distance to the main left and right speakers.
- Channel Balance: A test signal is output from one channel at a time, allowing the adjustment of the volume of the center speaker or surround speakers so they are the same apparent volume as the front speakers.
Video D/A Converter: In order to output a high-quality digital signal with its original purity still preserved, this unit employs a 10-bit, 54-MHz video D/A converter. This design improves the reproducibility of extremely minute details so that the picture viewed on the screen is completely faithful to the original image in both its colors and high resolution.
Audio D/A Converter: This unit has dual 192kHz/24-bit Burr Brown digital-to-analog converters that will allow it to produce a dynamic 2-channel playback of a DVD-Audio disc recorded at the highest resolution with a frequency response of 2Hz-88kHz. In addition, the D/A converters will allow it to produce multi-channel playback of DVD-Audio discs or DVD-Video discs recorded with 96kHz/24-bit audio with a frequency response of 2Hz-44kHz. Note: If a DVD recorded with a 192kHz or 96kHz sampling frequency is copyright-protected, no digital signal is output unless converted to 48kHz/16-bit. If a DVD recorded with a 192kHz or 96kHz sampling frequency is not copyright-protected, a 192kHz or 96kHz/24-bit digital signal is output.
Audio Only Mode: The DVD-1600 includes an Audio Only mode, which turns off the video circuits to ensure that noise doesn't affect the purity of the audio signal. This mode can be used when playing DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Video CD and Audio CD's.
Cinema Voice Mode: This feature allows you to raise the volume of the center channel output only. This can only be done during playback of DVD-Video discs during Dolby Digital, DTS or 3-channel or over modes only.
Progressive Scan Output With Faroudja's DCDi: This unit has a progressive scan output featuring Faroudja's patented Directional Correlational Deinterlacing (DCDi). This technology applies new motion adaptive deinterlacing that prevents the introduction of motion artifacts and jagged edges from video signals that originated from video cameras (such as with sporting events, live camera feeds and music videos). The result is a sharper, noise-free picture with finer details. Video images are displayed with optimum naturalness and color reproduction with less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than traditional interlaced scanned pictures.
Component Video Output: In addition to the composite video outputs and the S-video output, this unit is equipped with a set of component video outputs. When connected to a television with a component video input, the component video output of this unit will provide picture color and detail that is superior to video from composite and S-video outputs. The component outputs can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.
3MB Buffer Memory: This unit uses a 3MB digital buffer memory to reduce or eliminate layer change pauses or pickup dropouts.
GUI (Graphical User Interface): The DVD-1600's menu icons make navigation simple and efficient.
Built-in Decoders: This unit has built-in decoders for Dolby Digital, DTS, and DVD-Audio. The 5.1-channel analog output (6 RCA outputs) can be connected to a receiver that is "5.1-channel ready."
MP3 Playback: This unit will playback MP3 audio recorded on a CD-R or CD-RW disc. When playing back an MP3-encoded disc, you can directly access a track (chapter) by entering the track number on the numerical keypad on the remote. There are two repeat modes: Chapter (track) Repeat and Title (album) Repeat. There are no Random Play or Program Play modes during MP3 playback. If you record MP3 audio onto CD-R or CD-RW discs over a number of sessions, the unit will only play the recordings made in the first session. Recordings will not necessarily be played in the order they were recorded. The player will reorder the tracks according to their titles: Numbers in numerical order, Upper Case in alphabetical order and Lower Case in alphabetical order. This unit is not compatible with ID3 tags and packet-write format.
Virtual Surround Sound (V.S.S.): This unit features two types of Virtual Surround Sound: SP V.S.S when you are only using two front speakers in your system, and HP V.S.S. when you are using headphones. The V.S.S. feature simulates a surround-sound environment. If you are playing a disc with surround effects recorded on it, the effects are broadened and the sound seems to come from virtual speakers on either side. You can select "Natural effect", "Emphasized effect", or Off.
Markers: Up to 5 points on a DVD can be stored in memory and easily recalled. Markers are automatically cleared when the power is turned off or when the tray is opened.
Multi-Angle Display: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles. Note: This function is limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Resume Play Memory Function: When the Stop button is pressed, that position is stored in the memory. When the Play button is pressed after pressing the Stop button, playback resumes from the position where the disc was stopped. The resume play memory function is canceled if the disc tray is opened or the Stop button is pressed a second time.
Program Play: Up to 32 tracks on a DVD-Audio disc, Video CD, or audio CD can be programmed and played in any order. Note: The Program Play function does not work with DVD-Video discs.
Random Play: When playing a DVD-Audio disc, Video CD, or audio CD, you can play the tracks in random order. Note: The Random Play function does not work with DVD-Video Discs.
Repeat Play: "A-B Repeat" allows you to select any portion of a title, chapter, or track and play that portion repeatedly. When playing a DVD-Audio disc, you can repeat the current track, the current group, all discs, or DVD-Audio discs only. When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current title, the current chapter, all discs, or DVDs only. When playing a Video CD or an audio CD, you can repeat the current track, a selected disc, all discs, or CDs only.
Scan Search: When playing a DVD, DVD-Audio disc, Video CD, or audio CD, there are five fast-play speeds in both directions.
Slow Motion: When playing a DVD, DVD-Audio disc, or Video CD, you may move forward through the program being played in one of five slow motion speeds. When playing a DVD or DVD-Audio disc, you may move backward through the program being played in one of five slow motion speeds.
Parental Control: This unit allows you to set playback restrictions for DVDs using Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating from 0-7, which is protected by a 4-digit password.
Karaoke: When playing a karaoke disc, the vocals can be turned off. Note: This unit does not have a microphone jack.
Auto Power-Off: If the unit is in stop mode for approximately 30 minutes, it will automatically switch to standby mode.
