The Pioneer DV-563A Codefree DVD player offers astonishing performance and versatility for its modest price. You can select either progressive-scan or interlaced video output to match the capabilities of your TV. Progressive-scan images look exceptionally sharp and clean thanks to Pioneer's PureCinema de-interlacer chip, normally found on their high-end Elite-series players. (The de-interlacer is what converts interlaced-scan video signals to progressive scan.)
If you have a 5.1-channel audio system, the DV-563A will help you give it a real workout! In addition to built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding for DVD movie soundtracks, this "universal" player will introduce you to the enhanced fidelity of Super Audio CD (SACD) and DVD-Audio discs. Both formats offer up to 6 channels of sound with resolution that's better than CD! Those additional channels can be used to place you smack in the middle of the performers, or to re-create the acoustic space of, say, a jazz club or concert hall. If you love music, these two formats will bring an exciting new dimension to your listening.
Because it's designed to reproduce these ultra-high-resolution music formats, the DV-563A sounds superb playing your CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs. It can also handle your ultra-long-playing MP3 discs.
Video D/A Converter
This player uses a 54MHz/10-bit video digital-to-analog converter. This high-bit, high sampling D/A converter helps to reduce digital artifacts to give you a better picture.PureCinema Progressive Scan
Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.JPEG Picture Disc
This unit will play back JPEG files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level2, Romeo, or Joliet formats. Baseline JPEG and EXIF 2.1 still image files up to 8 mega-pixels are supported (maximum vertical and horizontal resolution is 5120 pixels). During playback, you can use the JPEG Disc Navigator to find a particular folder or picture by filename. Using the Photo Browser, you can locate a picture within a folder by thumbnail image. Other available functions during JPEG disc playback include: zoom (2x, 4x), slide show playback, and angle adjustment, which allows you to rotate the current image 90-degrees clockwise.

Pioneer DV-563A Review on DVDBuyingGuide.com
Model: Pioneer DV-563A CodeFree DVD Player
Written by: Ed Brantley, DVDBuyingGuide.com
At just $399 the Pioneer DV-563A is a super value. Compared to most of the other code free DVD players, this model gives you a wide range of features at a still affordable price. I was really happy to find a Pioneer code free player with a built in NTSC/PAL converter.
The DV-563A is packed with features that rival most of the higher end players. For starters, it plays discs from regions 1-6. The Pioneer has a built in NTSC/PAL converter, so it is possible to play PAL discs from overseas on the standard American NTSC TV. This is very important because a lot of the discs from other regions are formatted in PAL, and 99% of TV's here in the US will only play the NTSC format. The Pioneer played my DVD's from other regions with no problems. I am overseas quite a bit and I picked up a region 3 copy of Kingpin and brought it back to the states and it played without any hassle. The transfer to DVD of animated discs such as Ice Age and Monsters, Inc. really looked brilliant. There isn't too much that this player can't do, both CDR's and MP3's downloaded from my computer played with no hassle. The Pioneer also plays discs encoded with the new RCE encoding, such as The Patriot, which worked out good because many of the major studios are now encoding discs with this. The player features twin wave laser pick ups, which makes for some really impressive image quality. Scrolling between chapters was a breeze with this player. I was also able to scroll within a chapter at variable speeds. The audio on the Pioneer DV-563A really packs quite a punch. It offers both Dolby Digital and DTS surround processing and a 192kHz/24-bit D-A converter. This player also boasts many other features that have become standard in most of today's players. Some of these features include the zoom function and the quick resume function, which is very convenient. I also own quite a few interactive DVD's and changing the angles on those movies was quite easy also.
Aesthetically the player is very attractive. It's ultra slim, black design is a nice looking addition to any home theater set up. The build of the player is very strong and sold, given its size. The loading tray for the DVD's slides in and out quickly and is very sturdy. The front of the player itself is pretty bare bones, with the buttons you need to get started and that's about it. Most of the operations are handled via the remote and so this really wasn't much of a problem. Ergonomically the remote leaves a little to be desired, but it is easy enough to get around and pretty straight forward. The on screen set up menu can be easily accessed from the remote and is pretty easy to navigate through however, newbies to the DVD arena may find the set up menu a bit cryptic or confusing. You will have many options when hooking this DVD player up as there are many different options when it comes to outputs. The player comes with one of each of the following component video, s-video, digital optical, coaxial, and composite as well as left and right audio outputs. I found that hooking the player up using the component video outputs provided me with the best picture.

Submitted by: Ron Johnson, Long Beach CAStrengths: Very easy to use, nice remote Length of Use: 1 month Review Summary: I really like this DVD player a lot. It was my first DVD player and it was much easier to use than I thought it would be. The remote was laid out well and the set up menu was real easy to get around. The region changing was automatic and I didn't have to adjust anything. Weaknesses: It only holds one DVD.
